Replacement Battery for 987

Hi Duncan,

The original fitment would have been a lead acid Moll battery with [I think] 80Ah capacity. I’d go for something like a non-AGM Bosch or Varta replacement with a decent warranty.

I need a new battery for my 2010 987 . I’ve searched many suppliers including 911 Design and they all list batteries that are ‘recommended’ for my car. However, my current battery, which I believe is the original , is a Bosh 85Ah unit. None of the suppliers offer an 85Ah battery. They vary between 76 & 84 although 911 Design do offer an option of a 110Ah at a much higher price than their other recommendations. I am reluctant to replace the current battery with one of a lower capacity regardless of technical ‘recommendations’ - has anyone had experience of this puzzle?
Thanks, Duncan

if you can keep your car on a trickle charger, / conditioner, such as a CTEK, i think a slightly lower Ah should be fine

Too high might damager other electrical circuits or fool the alternator into not charging properly?

Thanks, I did wonder if it were the original and from what you say the original capacity would have been 80Ah. I will see what I can find at that capacity.

thanks again

I bought a Bosch S5 Silver Plus HSB096,

12V 577 400 078

780A (EN) 77Ah

0 092 s50 080

Had one of these on when I bought the car and it lasted 7 years so I bought exactly the same

Eurocarparts.

987.1 (2007) 2.7

Thanks everyone, I’ve ordered an 80Ah Varta. Turns out although there are dozens to choose from, when I checked the physical dimensions of my current (no pun intended) battery only a few of the many that suppliers claim are for the Cayman are correct or at least the same as what I have now. Thanks again for all your help

Duncan
