Replacement battery

Alas not a member of Costco and ECP don't have one so it looks like I'm going to get one of their own brand ones, Lion or somesuch. It'll do as a stopgap. The guy said lifetime guarentee which I was a bit surprised at. Also said it was a Calcium battery whatever they are... Only 71 Ah compared with 75Ah for Bosch though.

For the record ECP list the Bosch 096 75Ah battery for the 996, around £68 iirc.

JZ Machtech recommend Bosch Silver Top - 3 year (?) guarantee

£100 fitted or thereabouts.

I fitted the cheapo one today as I needed it in a hurry. £37.50 plus VAT. Would have gone for the Bosch had one been available. We'll see how we get on with this one. The guy said it had a greater starting power than the older lead acid batteries for what it is worth. Lifetime guarentee as well, so this'll be the last battery I ever have to buy for this car... (fat chance)
PS the Porsche battery it replaced is a 70Ah one BTW.

The Bosch Silver 7HN is a good substitute. You probably have the 70AH Porsche (Moll) battery, and the 7HN is 75AH. Take a look at the battery replacement DIY in the Technical Articles section for some tips on changing.

Thanks for prompt reply Richard,

I've already seen the 'how to' article just wasn't sure which was the replacement.

I've got it connected up to the battery optimiser but the way it keeps swapping between charged and charging leads me to suspect its on the way out. I've also checked the electrolyte with a halfrauds gadget and it looked ok, maybe the cold weathers got to it.

By the way I located the rattly trim to the drivers door and now all ok

Richard sent me the TSBs as I was struggling to locate the source.

Mine turned out to be the door panel at the point where it shuts up close to the edge of the dash, I prised it off a little and then put it back and touch wood its been alright since. The TSBs help identify probable sources and there are many!!
