Replacement cab panels

Just before xmas i got hold of a pair of the moulded rear wheel arch covers and petrol flap from douglas valley.
I'm going to get them painted guardsred ready to swap over with the ones on my cab as they've started to fade quite badly now and it's quite noticable especially on the fuel filler side (polishing is only a temporary fix).
Looking at the holes on the top of the panels it seems that the hood has to be loosened or removed fully to locate the top sections of the panels.
Has anyone done this job before and would i be "biting off a bit more than i can chew" attempting it as it involves the hood.
Any advice is much appreciated.

I took the old tatty hood off my cabrio for replacement and there are a series of screws along the top edge of the plastic trim, so you will need to remove the strip around the inside of the hood to get to them. It's probably best to go to a local car upholsterer who can release the hood for you, and then get him to re-tension it after you have changed the panel.

Just for your information when I replaced the hood I removed and trashed the old one, did all the cleaning up work and replaced some parts of the mechanism but had the upholsterer replace the canvas hood for me - quite a tricky and specialist job.

Big les, in your opinion does the hood and frame have to be completely removed for the wheel arch panels to be taken off or is it just a case of removing the screws that you mention.I can see the "top edge" screws that you describe on my replacement panels - there's 8 on each side of the top edge.

You will need to remove the interior quarter panels and also the rear parcel shelf, and then I think there is a metal strip that holds the hood in place against a rubber seal. The plate and hood will then need to be released. That reveals the rubber seal, and if pushed to one side with your fingers it will reveal the screws (which you have already seen).

If you like I can send you some pictures I took of mine with the hood off so you can see to what extent it needs to be stripped down.

Forget to mention - you won't need to remove the whole hood, you will just be releasing the rear section of the hood that holds the rear window.
