Replacement Clutch

Looking for some guidance.

I have just tried to take my 50,000 mile 993 from the garage after 5 months and found the clutch pedal will only move about 2 inches and won't allow the car to engage a gear.

I knew the clutch was going but did not expect it to stop just like that!!

Can anyone off any guidance on if this is cable or hydraulic driven or how I can get the car going.

Please help...

would suggest it sounds like a hydraulic problem rather than the clutch itself, especially if the car has been garaged up for a while. Look at the reservoir for drop in level indicating loss of clutch fluid. Clutch slave cylinder could be the culprit

Pull the clutch pedal up off the floor and then pump it up and down several times and see if this gives you more hydraulic pressure.
The clutch pedal is prone to "hanging" I have to pull mine up with my foot a few times when it's been standing for a while

When i purchased my C2 the clutch action was rather notchy and it was also reluctant to let me change out of gear at times. I was fairly certain that the reluctance to come out of gear was down to the friction disk not moving easily away from the flywheel and hence continuing to exert torque on the gear train. Changing the clutch assembly and cleaning up the splines transformed the clutch action and fixed the gearchange problem.

In short, Maurice's diagnosis seem to me to be correct and, if that is the case, the gearchange and clutch action would benefit substantially from a spline cleanup. While you are going to the expense of the dismantling required to do that it would likely make sense to fit a new clutch assembly.
