Replacement clutch

Having been thinking about changing my car for a 997 but now I have decided to hang onto my 996 for a while longer I am thinking what may need doing over the next couple of years.
I'm not sure what the schedule is for changing the clutch but the last time my indie had the car in he commented the clutch was feeling heavy, not something I have noticed but then over a period of time I may not.
So what is the official clutch change interval and when do they generally wear? Anyone know the damage on a new clutch?
 
I don't belive there is an "official clutch change interval". I've always changed clutches when they stop working!

My C2 has now done about 64k on origianal clutch, but ymmv.
