Replacement exhaust

After nearly 18 years I am eventually considering replacing the exhaust boxes on my 2004 MY C4S - they only just scraped through the MOT recently and are starting to split at the seams .
I have been looking at the Design 911 DesignTek stainless steel system - does anyone have experience of this, or can anyone suggest a better option (don't need switchable or loud sports noise - just routine replacement to last for another 10 years).
Thanks
Chris

If you need continued longevity and reliability (and not tediously loud) , the original Porsche exhausts are a good bet, if you want to stretch to them... made for the car, still sound fine [;)]

Thanks for the comment pse_SC
Has anyone else got any words of wisdom for me - I can't believe that no one has replaced their exhaust in the last year or so.

Mate of mine had a 996 with the PSE fitted, and his were on the way out.

I'm sure he said he was replacing them with Dansk items, not sure though as he's sold the car since then.

Hi I have recently fitted a pair of designtek switchable exhausts cost around £850 on special offer at Christmas and fitted at a local shop for £350 noise is 95 db shut 104 db open checked at Goodwood by the trackday staff I love them open my wife hates them so I have them shut when I’m out with her !! ,my friend has replaced his with a pair of Dansk nice tone slightly louder than factory hope this helps you Graham

I’ve recently put Milltek boxes on my 996 and I love them. They’re not so loud as to be annoying at low revs or cruising but have enough of a growl for "spirited” driving (or in a tunnel)!

Nobody went anywhere, so I guess not many did :)

I have a Miltek fitted. It was done for me pre-purchase. I was advised that to replace with the original PSE, the back boxes are so flimsy, stones from the RWD will eat through them in no time at all. In the Indys opinion, Miltek gave the best durability and sound, and, I can agree with the sound. As stated above, at low revs, it's normal. Through the range though, it sounds fantastic, as well as in tunnels. Second to third is a a joy :)

Do keep in mind that those are just the outer covers that are split and I doubt are leaking any gases unless the problem is deeper.
I would strongly consider repairing them.
Also the stock exhaust is much better than most of the cheap replacements available.
Many cheap aftermarket systems will make the car sound awful.

Aftermarket needs to be in the £1.5k before you start to get something decent.

Thanks for your further comments guys.
I went for a Dansk system eventually (Sound version) and contrary to the description, it is remarkably controlled unless the revs are really increased - fitted by my Indy at an all-in cost of less than £1000.
I'm happy.

Thats a good price.
I'd be tempted to go for Dansk back boxes on my Boxster when the time comes to replace my original exhaust (modified by Carnewal)

I have Dansk fitted on my car, (by the previous owner), and I am very happy with the overall sound.
+1 for Dansk on mine too... Got the S/S ones done at Northway a few years ago.

Hi , I have Top Gear exhaust on my turbo. Very pleased with the sound and quality

I had Top gear silencers fitted 18 months ago and I don't get why they are not recommended more often. When they arrived the quality of stainless welding was really good (I'm a bit finicky about the quality being used to sports bike exhausts like akrapovic) yet the cost was ridiculously low (£450 - 500) admittedly mine are the sports sound flavour which are the loudest and won't be to everyones taste, but i'm used to the exhaust from a 1000cc bike in my left ear so to me it just sounds gorgeous.
