Replacement front Wings

I've decided to have a full respray done on my 964 as the guards red is becoming more Barbie Pink! However, there is rust bubbling through at the front of each wing so given this I need to change them before the paint work is done.

The OPC have quoted £1800 inc VAT for the two, this is their first quote in fairness, let's see if a deal is forthcoming[:D] Which in all honesty I hope they can. I'm waiting on the quote for the replacement body seals.

Anyway, my ask is does anyone have any experience on sourcing replacement wings, where to go, avoid and any pitfalls which I should be aware off? I need to source high quality replacements as there is no point in replacing with poor quality one's given the cost of the respray.

Comments etc.

thanks

Not sure where you are in the UK, but OPC Solihull always try to match indy prices. They recently did a cracking price on a new oil cooler for me. I also believe they have scope for offering a discount over and above the PCGB 10%, depending on the item code.

I would also ask your preferred body shop for their view on the wings. I've recently had my car resprayed and the wings now look excellent (before they were looking a bit sorry for themselves...). The same applies to the pink effect - I would get a second opinion as a professional detailer will be able to do a full polish for approx £300 (- a website called www.detailingworld.com is a good place to start for recommendations in your area).

This aside, I've just had my car back and it looks like new and I think it was money well spent [:)].

Lee (C2Dweller),
Glad to hear you're pleased with the car. Must do that beer with Martin964 soon.

P.S. Sorry to go off topic. [;)]

when i had some work done on the scuttle panel the rust went down the gap between the wing the repair guy tryed in vain to take the wings of but gave up as he said it would have distroyed the wings in the process the ceiling strip even when heated with a gun would not come apart buttling the wing in the process so think twice before removel can the wings not be repaired and leaded

The car was detailed by Swissvax late last year with excellent results but, despite this the paint has indeed aged too far and a respray is the only way to improve the car. I'll wait and see what the OPC can do and try other links too.

One thing I had done with my respray was to go to base coat & lacquer - to avoid pink days in the future. Worth considering if you do go ahead.

Although the wings are mostly bolted on, their are a couple of small welds near the scuttle panel that need to be broken....that's probably what your guy had a problem with.

he was just in the process of taking all the aircon pipes out and the oil pipes as well when i called in and stpoped him the cost would have been silly to replace so i supose he never saw the top edge of the wings i didant know of the welds regards ray

Should only be 3 tack welds, simply grind them off. Its what I had done when the rubbers were renewed a while ago.
