Are the Schroth harness's specific for the 964 model? Or could you use other Porsche model Schroth versions like GT3?

You can use others.....I'll dig out what I used if you are interested. I got mine from MSAR who were very good, however, you need to be aware that you may need to fit eye bolts instead of the hex bolts. The challenge is fitting that on the drivers side where the seat is closer to the centre console than the passenger side.

Happy to provide more info if you need.

Thanks Hugh, that would be really useful. I have been offered a set from an RS Kettle. The seller reckons they are interchangeable on Porsche models. But as you point out there may be some complications in fitting satisfactorily.
Thanks for your offer of assistance.
Cheers

As Hugh said, eyebolts could be needed. Then it´s even more tricky. Did it on my Cup car with eyebolts with these:

combined with:

Shoulder harness on cage. The only problem can be the right lap belt on the driver´s side (as said above), that is a very narrow gap between centre and seat. For me it worked, I´m happy with that solution.

Hope that helps,

Hacki

Right I bought these, which are Schroth Profi II-6, mine is with Slip stop (as I wear a HANS, but you dont need to have one. The point you will note is as hacki points out, the eyebolt by the tranmission tunnel (drivers side only) is tight, and you wont be able to clip the harness on. As a result you will need one of these below. These can be twisted slightly to enable you to clip the harness on. They are FIA compliant and therefore are safe and will pass scruitineering. I thought this belt set look very much like to original, albeit in a 3inch size. I spent a lot of time with MSAR before getting it right. Also worth noting the belt set comes with eye bolts, so you wont need to buy those. Additionally, the clip on the end of the shoulder straps come, off so that you can wrap the belts around the roll bar behind the seat. this reduces the length, and therefore the amount they will stretch in an impact.

Finally, when fitted dont forget to put split pins into the clips on the anchor points (a common mistake)

Hugh, it might work with the original eyebolt - worth a try, but very tight and maybe it will reduce the variety of seat positions.

To correct my post above, this is the crotch strap: http://www.isa-racing.com/product_info.php/info/p6755_T-Schrittgurt.html

Somehow I put in two identical links, sorry!

Actually I never thought of split pins all these years and was never asked in scrutineering....hmmmm.

Glad I asked the question (I think), what seems a fairly straight forward thing to change on the car, is it seems not!
Hacki and Hugh many thanks for taking the time and sharing your experience on this. Really appreciate your help.

My new Schroth harnesses clipped straight into extg. eye bolts on tunnel and floor.

I have had eye bolts fitted to the rear shelf as with the Schroth rip/tear indicator I couldn't get the shoulder straps tight enough on the cage.

Simon, to be honest, it is easy - its just you expect to unclip the old one, take the new one out of the box and clip it on - job done. Its a bit more fiddly than that. It took a while to get the harnesses at the same length both sides too. As well as being tight enough on the bar (as Melv says). According to MSAR at the time, that was down to the way you fold the harness back through the buckle.

Hacki, you are right of course, Scrutineers are very unlikely to pick these things up, but one day some one spots it. I had a different dates on shoulder and lap belts in the past (another no-no for scrutineering), got through a full year before someone spotted it. Caterham used to supply harness sets from the factory like that!!!

Hugh, I've still not got round to putting split pins in. What size are they? Or maybe I should just a buy a job lot like this that has a variety of sizes:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Stainless-Split-Cotter-Pins-80-Pieces-Mixed-Pack-/150443633298?pt=UK_BOI_Industrial_Supply_Security_Equipment_ET&hash=item230723aa92

Small, but long....Err about 3/4 " and thin.

I've got a selection in the garage, so picked some that fitted.
