Replacement immobiliser fob

Hi has anyone managed to obtain a replacement fob to work with the factory RS immobiliser. My local OPC have warned me that while it is possible to order a fob, it will need to be coded to the immobiliser ECU. This involves wiping the memory from the original key and apparently there is then a danger that the original key will then fail to work as it is unlikely to accept the new code, thus you still only end up with one fob (the new one), making it an expensive exercise for no gain. Worse still, there is a risk that neither key will accept a code, making it neccessary to replace both the ECU for the immobiliser circuit and the ECU for the 'drive away unit' (whatever that is!) These units are only available from Porsche Motorsport, take an infinite time to obtain and are a small fortune......Bit of a dilema.......take the risk of trying for a new fob or run the risk of the original packing up or getting lost.

Thanks Guys, any suggestions would be much appreciated

Hi Graham
I am sure their are alarm guys out there who can override your alarm /ecu,then put a after market thacham approved system on may be.
I find it hard to believe that porsche motorsport would be the suppliers, rather than general porsche supplies.
I have a contact at porsche motorsport, for next day or 2 day delivery,if it helps.
My 993 cup car and gt2 racer had no alarm on.

I had a new fob installed at OPC Notts, takes about three hours because there is a set timing sequence, all works fine.....but not cheap!

Believe Hamilton & Palmer (01732 760022) have done all the key fob/immobiliser programming for new UK cars for some years. Perhaps cheaper than OPC?

Thanks for the suggestions guys, will tackle my OPC with renewed vigour!

If this fails Paul, will get back in touch to see if your contact can help.

Thanks again
