Replacement key for 987.2

Any thoughts on alternatives to being shafted by an OPC?

I have a quote for over £450 for the complete key. I may be able to shave £150 or so off by sourcing a blade separately. One quote from a third party auto locksmith was £330, which didn't seem terribly appealing given it wasn't using a genuine keyhead...

Why do you need a new blade?

I paid circa £150 in March 2019 for a new key head including programming at an independent.

Genuine Porsche.

Hi, I replaced a 986 key a couple of years ago and it was £350 from Porsche centre Portsmouth. I remember that that the important point in replacing a key is the key bar code which should be in your cars document pack and produced when replacing the key, seems that make life a lot easier to identify the key code for replacement. Also info gleamed from a registered car lock smith is that the security code in Porsche keys are a closely kept secret by Porsche (for obvious reasons) so claims by non Porsche suppliers might be false economy. Your call….

I've lost one of my two keys. I want to replace it. I can get a blade cut for £15. Porsche charges £170 for the blade.

So, if using an OPC, seems a no brainer to get a blade cut and then get them to do a new head?

We have mislaid one of our keys for the Boxster.

PC quote is £265 for key plus £100 for coding = £365 (all figures approximate).

Should I be able to get PCGB 10% members discount off that?

Don't see why you shouldn't get the PCGB discount

Best ask before going ahead.
