Replacement keyfob buttons

Hi.

I have a 2002 facelift car and the rubber buttons on both remote fobs have worn down flat and on one the rubber has actually broken through.

I've seen a few on ebay from Germany which are the 3 button key head and a blank blade but they are £30 +P&P, which seems a lot for what I want.

Anyone know if I can just replace the rubber buttons or indeed just the plastic key head for less money [don't fancy reprogramming it].

The plastic remote is 2 pieces that snap together. Porsche sells the half that has the buttons on it. That way you do not have to buy an entire new remote.

When you do come to change it make sure you do not disconnect the battery from the PCB for more than 29 seconds. If you do then you will need to get the key reprogrammed at an OPC. I guess this applies to 2002 Facelift cars. It definately does to a 2003 as I found out to my cost!

Thanks guys for the speedy response,

Will ring OPC for a price, anyone know the part number...?

Sould be 996 637 351 00. Have your OPC double check the part number. This is for a 3 button remote.

Cheers again.

I rang my OPC earlier without a part number and was told I can only order the whole keyfob, for £90!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'll try them tomorrow with the part number to see if they are trying to stitch me up.

Thanks again.
Pete.

£18.34, lovely stuff thanks guys.

Ordered from Bristol, if Cardiff are trying to rip me off they can't have my money [;)]

I know you can buy just the button half of the remote because I gave out the part number last year to someone on boxa.net after he was also told you had to buy the entire remote. He was able to buy the half, but I forget what he paid.

It is not always easy to find parts on PET. Under the remote there is a listing for something like "upper part" and you are left to guess that it is the half with the buttons. The first parts person may not have known you can buy just the half.

[FONT=verdana, geneva"]Do you have the part number for the button side of the 987 key fob, as mine cracked just a few weeks after the warranty expired (only two years in the UK ). My OPC quoted £150 for a replacement with programming, but I rather felt that there might be a cheaper option.[FONT=verdana, geneva"]

Toolpants - it arrived this morning, took some squeezing but its fitted and just what the doctor ordered.

THANKS!
