Replacement turbo

It looks like I need to replace/refurbish the turbo []. There is a very pronounced whistle and removing one of the hard intercooler pipes shows what look like tiny pieces of metal (so small you can't actually feel them). Also some oil but not a huge amount.

The car is a Turbo S so presumably has the K26/8 turbo fitted. I am inclined to stick with the K26/8 but would be interested in opinions on possible alternatives. The car already has a Promax level 2 kit and is used for the occasional track day. It is not my daily car.

Any suggestions for alternatives or where to get a replacement K26/8 (or refurbish the existing one) would be appreciated. I have no idea on costs as I have never investigated turbos before now. I won't be doing the job myself and I'm guessing it won't be cheap!

Hi Steve

There's a lot of possibilities in regards to replacement turbos but that would most likely incur further cost and setup and thus needs a little research..however a rebuild of your current unit shouldn't be too expensive...budget around £400 depending on work required..There are a few companies out there, I have used 'Universal turbo's' for my rebuilds..they will collect your turbo via courier and return it when finished, turn around can be within a few days.
