Replacement Tyres for Cayman R

Hi,
looking like I'm going to need a new set of boots for my Cayman R. Currently running on the originally supplied summer tyres Michelin Pilot Sports.
Ideally I'd prefer something that gives me a fighting chance of getting a few runs out when the temp drops below 6C (minimum effective temp for the summer tyres). Any suggestions or experience of other makes for 'all year' and 'all weather'?
I prefer not to have a spare set of wheels and tyres and have to change them each season.
Thanks,
Colin

Hi Colin, I think perhaps that you're asking too much to expect an "all year round" tyre for a high performance car, even if you can find one which meets your needs. You could get some winter tyres and see how they work out for summer use - our summer temperatures aren't extreme. I note that your's is a 2012 car, so will still be under the factory warranty which I think requires any tyres you fit to be N-rated. Good luck with your search and keep us posted. Jeff

super sports you car will still be covered under warranty :) you just cannot renew with super sports on, but I that's down to your opc

Wide tyres are worse in the snow than skinny ones so a modern Porsche of any description is going to be a bit lairy in winter. Proper winter tyres will make a significant difference and there are at least Porsche approved options. I don't think there are really any "all season" tyres in the sizes you'll need.

Hi thanks all for the replies but still a little stuck. Having confirmed that there is no 'all weather' tyre for the Cayman R I decided to look into getting some winter tyres. OPC offered the only option of 18" rims and tyres complete but at £2200 didn't really fancy that. Looked around and managed to find Michelin Pilot Alpin that's recommended (by Michelin) for the Cayman R, however OPC says that they need to be N rated tyres to keep the warranty.....hmm, from what I can see there are NO winter tyres with an N rating.....I asked the question of a number of tyre outlets and they all have no idea. Kwik Fit offer a tyre hotel for the season, at £75 it works out a lot cheaper than buying (and storing) an extra set of rims, they'll swap the tyres back when the weather changes. The issue I need to get over is how do I get confirmation on the N rating for the Michelin Pilot Alpin?? Any clues? Thanks, Colin

There must be - the ones the OPCs sell as a set with wheels must surely be N rated. Chris.

Opc Hatfield sold me the £2200 rims and Pirelli winters -- n rated and swapped them for free each oct/ march Been brilliant and allowed me continuous use since buying them

whatever the size wheels, you should be able to get n rated winter tyres for them, Porsche cannot ship cars in Germany without winter tyres, in winter. So unless uk cars have different sized wheels ergo, you can get winter tyres. J
