Replacing boot lid strut point

Hi all,

one of the boot lid strut points (the round point that the boot strut goes onto) is sheared off. Has anyone had to replace one of these before, are they even available?

I'm hoping it could be screwed out but it doesn't really seem to be like a bolt at the end. I'm wondering if I need to get a new top welded onto it or how I'm going to sort it out short of a new boot lid. Its british racing green so I'd need to get a replacement resprayed.

At the moment I don't have boot struts on either side, and man that boot lid weighs a tonne! Must be good thick glass in it or something!

You can get a similar sized fixing ball with a threaded end from an old Ford Escort and possibly a few other cars.

Then just drill a suitable size hole and tap a thread and screw in the escort part.

The 928 ones are not threaded and I think from memory were fixed from inside which would mean removing the glass at the very least.

Mine has held up for the last 4 years with this fix.

I'll try to get old of one of those Escort fixing balls, thanks Paul!

Don't think I fancy having to take the glass out, isn't it bonded to the metal? I guess you did the same on both sides?
