Replacing brake pads

Hi all

I have a dilemma. I'm not sure if I should go for Motaquip, Mintex or Textar brake pads for my next set of pads. I need pads for all 4 wheels (typical), and the mechanic recommended the textar, which I never heard of. I can get motaquip very cheap, but I presume that is for a reason (ie they are useless). I was going to go for Mintex myself, but now am not sure.

Help? (The car is a 1988 220 bhp Turbo)

I've had several sets of Textar pads over the years and never had any problems. Normally around £35 per axle from German & Swedish car parts

Speaking from experience unless you are doing trackdays or some other driving that is going to be more demanding on the pads then I would stick with standard Textar pads. My experience of the more performance orientated pads is that they are more trouble than they are worth. They either are as near as damn it dangerous when cold, squeal like stuck pigs or generate clouds of corrosive dust that will dissolve your wheels and bodywork before your very eyes. In fact i'd go as far to say that even if you are doing track days and need performance over and above what the standard brake setup can provide then I would upgrade your brakes to larger discs and calipers so you can stick with standard pads. Andrew Sweatenham eats up the track with his standard 944 turbo with Big Blacks and standard pads and discs. If they are good enough for him, they'll do for me. As soon as I get round to it i'm ditching my EBC Yellows and refitting Textar.
