replacing disks. on low use cars any alternative as mine are rotten

My Box only does a few thousand miles a year and had a full set of disks replaced 2 years ago by the previos owner it since had done 5k miles and the disks are rotten on the rear face. is the OEM disk the best or are tehre thers that will stan up to not being used without rotting away. many thanks
 
No need to buy from Porsche, go online, quite cheap to replace all 4 for £250, a couple of hours work even if your very slow
 
Also remember to take the car for a drive for 10 or 15 mins after washing. This will get some heat into the disks, otherwise they will stay wet and rust! Would also suggest driving the car at least twice per week, rather than just at weekends as rust can set in when not in use. I drive my 2002 3.2S to work once per week as well as use at weekends.

This is by far the best prevention, we also have a 2004 S, with 50,000 miles on it's original discs and pads with no signs of corrosion. I have always driven the car post washing to thoroughly dry out the discs before the car sits in the garage.
 
As above, drive after washing. I've got over 70K miles on mine (10 years and several trackdays too!)

If you do need to "lay the car up" for an extended time then some Carcoon CSP sprayed on will stop any rot setting in.

If you're a PCGB member you may also get a 10% discount from your local OPC - you just need to ask. Actually OPC prices for parts are sometimes quite competitive.
 
If they are only rusting on the rear face, it sounds like there could be a problem with the calipers, stuck piston etc as with fixed calipers there should be even pressure on both side of the disc.
 
yea was thinking that and an going to put a piston kit and powdercoat them over the winter. .dodgy brembo's lol.... manythanks guys. will do a bit of looking about this week shes being stripped to a shell over teh winter so will be getting a hefty shopping list... Problem is I sorn her over the winter for 6 months as I have a winter car and this is where I think the problems are arising.
 
They normally rust on the inside as the water seems to collect there easier. If the car is not garaged the outer faces seem to get cleared ok by any wind that is about, but the inners do not get cleared so they rust. Almost invariably the inners look far worse then the outers.

Another reason to take it for a drive after washing it.
 
My 2001 "S" 34000mls. mainly summer use, still on original pads and discs. Cannot overestimate the need to ensure all moisture removed before garaging. It's the rear section that suffers from not being completely dry.
 
I did 80k on my 2003 Boxster in 6 years without needing to change any discs, either for wear or corrosion.
