Replacing drive shaft CV joint boots

Hello. In checking under my 3.2 Carrera over the last week I have noticed that both inner (Gearbox/diff end) drive shaft CV joint rubber boots have split. This is a bit disappointing as the engine and gearbox were out a few hundred miles ago for some gearbox work, new clutch and to solve an oil leak - at a Porsche 'Specialist' - and I would have though any sign of this would have been noticeable. Anyway: is the replacement something I could do myself in my own garage or does the engine/gearbox have to come out to get at the ends of the drive shafts ? Thanks.

Hi
This is a job you can do, before you jack up he rear end undo the nut that holds the drive shaft to rear hub bearing
also the lower shock absorber, now jack up onto stands, undo the drive shaft allen key bolts 7mm easier through the wheel arch over the brake disc,

The inner c/v joint is held with a circlip remove then knock it off the shaft splines, done let it fall to bits.

Hard to easy 10 -1 this job is 7, Get G K N c/v boot kits, sopport the trailing arm when undoing the drive shaft bolts

There was an detailed article with photos in a recent Porsche Post - well within the last few years anyway.

It takes about a day to do both sides a bit awkward but a lot cheaper than putting back into your Porsche specialist
