Replacing Electric Window Motor

My window started slowing down and eventually stopped a while ago.

Today I removed the motor and it's all clogged up so tried to replace it with a spare I'd bought but I can't seem to get it in far enough to bolt it on again, is there a secret to this or should it just slide in?

I've just tried to get the original motor back in but that won't even go in now.
