Replacing Exhaust Tailpipe - Questions!!

I've seen one post on 968uk where a member just used wet and dry to sand off the paint then metal polish (which I may try as an interim measure) , but I'd like a shiny chrome oval if poss. Found one in Germany - but 175 Euro plus P&P etc is a bit rich!!
It looks as if there's a clamp close to the end of the exhaust so the tip can be removed - am I correct? The bolt etc look well rusty - exhaust is original factory fit, not bad for 15 1/2 years and 59K miles! - so would probably have to be replaced with the tip.
I can't get into my PET (Vista 64 bit strikes again!) to get a diagram of the exhaust - can anyone help?
Anyone know a source of the bits I'd need?
TIA for the help.

That's a hell of a lot of money for a small length of chromepipe! A few years back I fitted one to my son's MG Midget - it slipped over and clamped on, cost less than £10! I feel wet 'n dry and metal polish coming on!ORIGINAL: 964RS_DAB I'm also about to fit a chrome oval tail pipe. Porscheshop in Halesowen sell them for ~£100, and charge ~£50 fitting which I imagine equates to an hour's labour

Thanks, that was exactly what was going through my mind. Would love to see a photo of the result.ORIGINAL: thumbhead [] Hi, I had the same intention with my 968 the black tail pipe looked really bad, but if you check it out like i did with a magnet you may find that it is actually manufactured from a low grade stainless steel possibly 304...................any how the solution and the result for around £10.00 was to take it to a specialist metal polisher and the tail pipe now has a fully polished finish which looks better than chrome????? sorry i havent got round to taking any photos as yet but trust me it looks the DB'S Try it first before buying
