Replacing Fog/Driving light bulbs ?

Sorry if this has been done to death on here, but i tried a search and came up with nothing.

Has ayone found a good solution to removing Fog/Driving light units that have the snazzin frazzin silly screws corroded in place, with the cross head either rounded or non existant ?

I can't believe Porsche were smart enough to put stainless steel screws on the cover to this are, and yet used steel screws for the actual unit - absolutely bonkers imho.

Short of drilling them out and facing the possibility of having to purchase replacement units at £185 each, is there a succesful way of getting around this ?

there is a product, i think called "plus-gas" which can be used to spray onto screws that wont budge, and it is meant to release them. It comes in a can, like WD40. That might work.

That's the only way I've heard of once they get so bad that the cross-head disentegrates [:mad:]

Be very, very careful with the drill then re-attach using stainless self tappers

Those fog/driving combo light screws on the turbo and S2 have driven people crazy for years. If you get yours out buy replacement screws in stainless and use anti-seize on the threads.

There are brass bosses cast into the rear housing which you need to be careful about. A last resort is to drill out the screw and try and remove it with an extractor (which never seems to work out right). However, if the drill bit heats up too much the brass bosses will let loose from the plastic housing. And then you are into some sort of jury rigged solution.

If you can find a car being parted buy the plastic housings and you won't have to worry too much. The housings are the most expensive part of the whole assembly and basically worth their weight in gold. :eek:
 
I've also got this problem to tackle - one light is fine but the other has a rusted, and rounded off, screw in it [:'(]

I shall proceed with caution
 
I'll be removing the fog/driving lights from my Turbo soon. I might have a buyer for one of them (nearside I think) but the other is up for grabs. As I remember they are both free from chips and not rusty.
 
I think that's the lamp GSF are charging £115+VAT for so half that; £65 delivered? I'd better check it's mint before we get too excited though.
