Replacing fuel lines

New member
It was brought to my attention recently that my car is weeping fuel from one of the fuel lines just beside the off-side rear wheel.
Does anyone have experience of replacing fuel lines? Is it an easy job?
Have been quoted £70 or so for parts and four or five hours labour at my local specialist, but would obviously prefer to keep costs to a minimum.
Please bear in mind that I am, to anything mechanical, what Ronnie Corbett is to basketball. [:D]

If I recall the fuel lines on my old 944S cost nearer £200 (but this was for the lot) plus a lot of hours fitting. The gearbox has to be dropped in order to fit the standard parts.

I do recall a letter from one of the Sussex Region TIPEC members in 911 world a few months ago setting out a cheaper way of doing it. If you don't have the magazine then let me know and I'll try and dig it out. (Please have the magazine - I have no idea where my copy might be!)

Cheers Mark. Now that you mention it, I do recall seeing an article in 911 & Pork World. Will probably have it kicking around at home. Let me turn my house upside down, before I ask you to do the same!
If it's at all messy, I'll just take the hit and get my specialist to do it.

A couple of T*pec guys said they would do the job for me, but I didn't want to take advantage of their generosity!! Maybe I should, for the cost of a few pints each. [:D]

Not wishing to be a purveyor of Doom & Gloom in this Season of Good Will but....

If there ever was an area of a car where you don't want to ponce about it has to be the fuel lines. A failure could mean fire of which the best outcome would be just the loss of your car. The worst case scenario doesn't bear thinking about.

Get it done properly! As a further thought. if the failure of an "allternative solution" utimately led to the destruction of your car do you think the insurers will pay up? No neither do I!

You could choose to replace the original fuel lines with custom made Kunifer10 lines. I did. They won't rust again [:)]

Just wanted to update the thread on this subject.
Have arranged to get the fuel lines replaced, with copper piping and the appropriate connectors, and am getting the job done by the Scottish Region Tipec R.O. for £40, as long as I assist!!! This should be taken care of on Saturday 17th January, so will post again thereafter to report on my findings and experience of the work involved. [:)]
