Replacing hubs??

Quick question for everyone?

If I was to buy a set of 1988 Turbo rear hubs would they be a straight swap over?

I only ask as I have found a set on ebay second hand and the thought crossed my mind?

Ongoing wheel problem is doing my head in now!!! Can't source aftermarket 15" wheels anywhere, so trying to think outside the box a bit![:)]

I have 2 rear cup2 alloys that should fit with no rubbing, they are the correct offset for the early hobs and come with 3-4mm of tread. size 9x17 with et 15

I don't think there's anything special about turbo rear hubs but there's a significant difference between the late & early offset hubs so you might be in for some interesting times if you try it. The rear wheel bearing is done up to some enormous torque too, making it a special tool job.

Is you problem the rubbing? The tyre & possibly bodywork should show evidence if where it's rubbing. If it's on the inside you need spacers, if it's on the outside you need to roll the arches or similar.

Why are you looking for aftermarket 15" wheels?

Yes, my problem is the rubbing, and it's pretty major. I have another thread going regarding the problems. Was just looking at aftermarket 15" alloys as a way of getting round it and appears to be a lack of teledials available at the moment.

One of the biggest advantages of having an early offset car is that you can fit Fuchs to it. Not cheap but very light & look great [:D]

I think you'll hate the look if you go from 17" to 15".

I know I've said it before, but I can't understand how the wheels are so far out to rub if you've got early hubs. You need a 30mm spacer to make later wheels fit at all, with early hubs and no spacers you should have stupidly big gaps, more likely to rub on the inside!

Can you find out the exact offset on the wheels, and take a pic of the hubs?

I have both sets of wheels, early and late, and you can see the difference plainly, the early offsets have very deep hold where the studs go (that reminds me i need to get a longer extension)

the later offsets (about 50ish) have much shallower holes.

It should state the ET of al your rims on the inside, some alloys even state it on the outside

I will try to get the wheel off and get some pictures tomorrow evening. All I know is that the wheels are wide and the hubs are big. There are definitely no spacers and the passenger side tyre scrubs on the outside edge when the body squats down or rolls over a bit

Russell - you can't go from 17"s back to 15"'s [&:]

Whip a wheel off and check the offset. As stated on the other thread you'll see ET followed by two digits. What is it?

Also - given your odd rear tyres - just try swapping the rears from one side to the other and see if the issue is still there. Even if one (or both) of your tyres are directional, they'll be fine running "the wrong way" for a few miles (unless it's absolutley teeming down).

Ok,

Next installment of the wheel scrubbing issues.... It would now appear that I have been barking totally up the wrong tree...... have just removed the wheel and checked the offset printed on it...... it is ET15!!!! I have posted a pic of my hub as well but I am now presuming that I have late hubs and early wheels???

Yep that looks like the width of a late offset hub.

ET15 puts a 9" the wheel 40mm further out from where it should be. You need a late offset wheel with an offset around the 55 mark

Excellent - glad the issue is identified [8D]

Now what you want is a lovely set of Cup1's .... but they're tres expensive [:(]

Cup2 are slightly less lovely to miks eyes but still suit the '44 very well

LINKS REMOVED [:D]

and I have my split rims for £300 [:D] that have a offset of et50 so should fit perfectly. And they even have tread on them, 5-6mm on front and 3-4mm on rear.

Wish I would of known about 1 week ago as I have just put on mine rears with et15 as they looked like they rubbed the inside, that would of been a good swap.

where abouts are you exactly John? Just wondering how close you are to me? I'm in Richmond, North Yorkshire?
