Replacing Rear Wheel Stud - S2

Mystique

New member
Hi,

I need to replace a sheared rear wheel stud on my S2 - I'm assuming the hub assembly needs to be removed from the car to do this. Are there any tips/ tricks I should know about (like how to remove the hub nut, which seems to have been tightened by an angry gorilla)??

Many thanks,

Graham.

The hub nut is tightened to an insane level of torque and you will need a large breaker bar and the aforementioned Goriilla to loosen it [&o]

I remember trying to do a similar job on a Lancia Delta, we ended up making a 4' long socket wrench handle using double-ended plug spanners to join the jimmy bars together...still required a unique blend of Philosophy, high intelligence and extreme violence to get it to move however!

Having done the rear wheel bearings on my Turbo in the last year or so, I can attest to this ! Fortunately I was in a workshop at the time and we used the largest (difficult to pick up) impact gun we could find, but it still took a lot of effort !

36mm(?) socket 3/4" drive at least with large 3' bar at least and a bar to lock the hub (wedge across the studs to the floor) and at least 4 weetabix!

Dont know about Deltas but Lancia Beta ones are even worse!

Torque multiplier !
Why so tight......can understand it on a turbo as the huge torque could spin the hubs off but lesser models ? [:D]
