Replacing sunroof seal

I'm helping a mate change the seal on the sunroof of his 944 lux (1985) on saturday, not a job I've needed to tackle before, I assume its simple enough, any advice on the best way to sort it?

Thanks

One thing I remember Bert saying is not to get tempted into cutting any excess off. It's supplied the correct length and will shrink a bit over time.

Let me know how you got on, I'm attempting mine next weekend, just had it delivered from Forest Fine............

Colin it was a doddle!! Kind of. The old one just peeled off and then I fitted the new one, it was a good 50mm to long as Paul suggested so I just kept working it round until I could get it to fit, like trying to compress it along its length but keeping the join in the middle at the back were the original one was, took me about an hour [;)]

Cheers

Did you use any glue or sealant.....is it just a push fit. Saturday is the day, weather permitting!

No the old one wasn't glued on just a push fit so I just cleaned the edge of the roof once I'd removed the old one and then push fit the new one [:D]

Finally got round to replacing sunroof seal, easy enough job didn't cut it and eventually after working it round a bit fitted a treat! However, the new seal is obviously a lot thicker than the old seal and although the sunroof clicks in and seals it sits prod of the roof by about 15mm. Anybody else have this problem.......

This is perhaps a little difficult for me to admit, but when I fitted mine, I could not fit the sunroof back into the aperture. After much head scratching, swearing and the purchase an original part, I realised I had it the wrong way around! That is I had the thick rubber part on the outer edge of the panel rather than the 'felt' looking bit.

There are some plastic adjustment screws inside the lip of the sunroof aperture on the car. I think these can be adjusted in or out to suit (someone correct me if I am wrong!) - but be careful with them as they are likely to be brittle - I learnt the hard way.

Mine has just started to shrink and allow the sunroof to fit as intended - has taken 6 months mind you[8|]

Nice new felt side facing upwards (the reason I replaced it is because the old one had the felt bit worn flat by my car cover, my wife has insisted in turning my garage into a dinning room!) so pretty sure it is fitted correctly. I refitted the old one which fits a treat, no upstand, the new one sits proud and looks rubbish! Can't figure how adjusting the screws within the apeture lip would help on plan size..........will it settle in after some usage[8|]

Well.......new sunroof seal still sitting up about 10 to 15mm and now to add insult to injury it's letting in rain during heavy showers and soaking the back seats. The reason I changed the seal was purely cosmetic the old one was weather tight and had never leaked [] My linen interior is now water marked and I'm s'pose to be putting it on the market soon...........
