replacing the bonnet badge - tips?

Done a search and can't find any previous Q's on the subject...perhaps that makes me a bit of a numpty!

My badge is slightly damaged (from the previous owners using it shut the bonnet!).

I have a new badge and just want any tips on the correct / best way to remove the old one (and affix the new one) before I proceed and snap something!

The pins on the underside of the current badge appear to be held in place by two small nuts (8mm?). However, this implies they screw on to the legs of the badge, but my new badge has smooth legs, not threaded ones. Is it simply a resistance fit?

All advice welcome!

Thanks.

I thought the badge was nice and chunky so you used it to push down on to close the lid, rather than risk damaging the lid itself ?

P - yeah, that would make sense, and I'm surprised Porsche didn't consider this, but if you continue to use the badge it will eventually buckle...I believe this is because there's an air gap behind it and between the bonnet (it really needs some padding or some support to save it becoming depressed)!

Tim -thanks.

Neil.

The badge assembly includes a plastic cushion which the badge fits into and which sits between it and the bonnet. The posts on the badge are smooth (i.e. not threaded) and the nuts screw on to them from the bonnet underside (obviously). I recall that they are sort of self-tapping. No big deal to replace and it's unlikely that you'll cause any damage, although you may need to watch out when removing the old badge. Just be careful not to over-tighten the nuts. Hope this helps.

The nuts are 8 mm. You need a deep socket. I call them "speed nuts" because they will cut threads on the smooth metal mounting pins on the back of the badge.

If one of the studs has broken off from the back of the badge then it is from pressing on the badge to close the lid. It is a pain to get a broken stud out of the lid.

After losing one to a keen Porsche badge collector with a screwdriver [] I replaced mine with a sticker from ebay.

You cannot spot the difference until you get real close and it is lighter as well[:D].

And yes, he left me with some deep scatches and one of the pins still stuck in so I can agree getting a broken pin out is fiddly!
