Replica wheels as good as originals?

it depends on the maker - there are some horror stories of some replicas "collapsing" under load, while others are fine. If you're buying from a reputable dealer I'm sure they'll be fine.

The original wheels have been xrayed for construction flaws, and tend to be very "true"

I remember being at an independant Porsche specialists a few years ago where they were dempnstrating a suspesnion alignment check - the particular equipment used a dial guage on the wheel rim as part of the setup - he commented that Porsche wheels were always absolutely true (no side to side variation) wheras aftermarket wheels were invariably "all over the place".

Of course this is just one opinion a long time ago - but it stuck in my memory [:)]

Replica wheels are of various qualities - some could be very close or even to Porsche standards for finish, alloy quality and weight. Others can be very inferior with rough castings showing through the paint layers.

Excess weight leads to poor handling too - try to buy from a reputable dealer, and always have a look at the wheels yourself to inspect quality, rather than buying mail order

Most Porsche wheels of late are made by BBS.

BBS have a good name, but I'm not convinced that they are any better than the other well known wheel manufacturers.

My Cargraphic wheels are of a significantly higher quality finish than my OEM GT3 wheels (made by BBS).
