Replica wheels

Hello all.
I'm not a regular poster on here (only once before in fact) but find this forum a good source of info.

I am looking at buying an additional set of wheels for my '97 993C4. It currently wears a set of Techarts but i want to get a set of Technology/turbo twists. However i'm thinking of getting a set of replicas as funds are i little tight after the festive period (and the misses wants a new car).

Does anyone have experience of using replicas?? I have heared from other forums that these are not always the best option.

I understand that as these are much cheaper than new originals ,my local OPC wants 4500 GBP per set, or refurbed originals and that the quality will not be to the same standard.

These will not see any track work and will used in winter months mainly and while my current wheels get a refurb.

Any advice is appreciated,

FG

I had a set of Mille Miglia Cup replicas on my 3.2 - no problems with them

I know some people complain that they are heavier etc but for me that was not a big issue

If you are looking for something to get you through the winter, they should not be a problem.

Have you looked for a 2nd Hand set - not sure how much they would go for

Another option is to go for 16" wheels - these are pretty unpopular on 993's, and I've seen a couple of sets going cheaply - would be a nice option for winter with some softer riding tyres

This is what I did, for winter use to save my newly refurbished 18" hollow-spokes.

The wheels cost me £100 and 4 new Bridgestone S02 N3 cost me £400. Looks awful, but the ride and handling are fantastic.

I would consider getting a set of refurbished genuine wheels over a set of copies.
Porsch apart at Bury had a set not long ago for about (don't quote me) £900.
The original wheels will always have a higher value if you decide to sell them at a later date.

Were there not two types of "Technology/turbo twists" from Porsche - the hollow spoke jobs actually fitted to Turbo and an identical look set (but not hollow) sold as on option on other 993s.

I may be wrong but I think I read this somewhere.

Montys wheels has a set of 18" alloys for a 993 on ebay at present for about 800 (can not remeber exactly) but that was with good tyres. How much you looking at spending, as a set on ebay a while ago (17" c4 went for about 350)
