PCGB Region 13 Hereford, Worcester & Shropshire
Region 13 Report for August 2012
The time has come the walrus said, to talk of many things. Of wheels by Fuchs and Porsche wings and jars of wax and washing things.
Last month, there was a cry, to give the country pub a try. The Bowling Green where we had been, was closed for several months this year. £500,000 pounds they've spent; nothing much but new decor, comfy seats they had before, have disappeared; the theme is dining all around the bar and nothing private for us with car.
Normal cars, in the parking tight, not much space for Porscheing might. Many souls I have spoken to, all have said "John, give it a miss". If not showing worth by New Year's time, they may well turn to shedding a dime. Then we'll have another miss, er, mess.
Years of venue chasing with AMOC and the same with Porsche Club GB, have shown how difficult it is to find, a friendly spot to unwind and park your prides in a place that's kind.
Since 1999, we have had eight venues and now we have the Chateau to use. So please be good and thank your lucky stars that we have somewhere safe to park our cars.
Tuesday 25th September, we have been invited by our own Lee Jones to visit his premises, "Cotswold Porsche Specialists", at Toddington, about six miles south of Evesham. Post code GL54 SEB. In case you want to go direct.
We are planning to meet at the Chateau, with the object of setting off at 6.30pm, to arrive in some daylight. I will lead but to avoid a long convoy and avoid legalities, we shall go in small groups with each leader having clear directions. Some will be left at Reception for any late comers. Or of course you can use your sat nav. It will make a change to have a run-out and I hope as many of you as possible will join us.
There will not be a meeting in December as there are so many other commitments at that time of the year. However, in the longer evenings next year, following the above, I am thinking of arranging one or two evening runs to a bit of scenery and a country pub, with you making your own way home afterwards.
Tuesday 30th October, return of Gwyn Fennell to tell us more about "˜Continental Tyres'.
Tuesday 29th November. Our own champion canoeist, Andy Nevitt, to tell us about his adventures on the Colorado River in the Rio Grande. That ought to be a splash.
January, we shall be at the Chateau, why not all join for a Carvery and toast the New Year in ?. February, skittles and dining night which always seems to go down well, with stomachs free of the Christmas binge.
March, will be "˜Around the World', with Manuel. I am looking into a visit to Paul Howells down at Wyedean. We have not been for a couple of years and he tells me they have some interesting cars
April, perhaps a week day visit to Crich Tramway Museum, before it gets too popular later in the year. May; of course, Curborough. There, we are already written off for half of next year !
Forthcoming Events.........I see no reason to précis this if you have read the above.
John.................................Printed on R13 Forum as well.
