PCGB, Region 13, Hereford, Worcester & Shropshire April
The Hadley Bowling Green Inn on the Last Tuesday of the Month.
Post Code WR9 0AR
Our meeting at the end of March, saw sixteen of us gathered to discuss our cars and several forthcoming or proposed events. These included, the Manx Tour, a sprint day at Curborough, a tour of the Morgan Motor Company, a visit to Paul Howles' collection at Wyedean and also a canoeing event on the Wye, also a Paul Howles' activity. Since then, I have been able to pursue these as seen further on.
The intention for the Morgan Tour, was to restrict it to a maximum of 15 people.
In order to allow enough spaces and because I have been several times, I handed over the reigns, to Region 9 members, Pauline and Barrie Birch, who very kindly volunteered, so thank you to them. I heard later, that around 30 turned up but Morgan took it in good spirit, which I believe resulted in a successful trip. I know that at least one or two, came from as far away as Surrey.
Sunday before our April meeting, saw many of us at the Cotswold Rally which I am sure will be reported in detail elsewhere.
April, saw us again at the Bowling Green, with a private room, kindly allowed by the new management team, on the basis "that we bring them business". How enlightened. We were treated to an interesting presentation by Peter McIlvenny of Heritage Insurance, explaining their position with both classic car and every day car insurance cover. This was followed by much constructive question and answer time and clearly promoted several ongoing enquiries. Thank you Peter for a most informative evening.
I was also pleased to welcome new Member, Stuart Spence, who came all the way from north of Telford, hopefully he will become part of our regulars. I was pleased to announce that the Curborough day was fully booked. There will be a surplus as previous years and again it was agreed that this should be donated to the Air Ambulance at Cosford. I am hoping to co-ordinate this with a visit to one of the Breakfast Meets, later in the year.
I have also arranged a Canoeing trip with Graham Howles and the date is Sunday 16th August.
We shall gather at the Royal Lodge Hotel, Symonds Yat for coffee as we usually do for a visit to Paul's.
Then a minibus will take us 9 miles up river to Kerne Bridge, for a gentle trip down river, back to The Royal Lodge. The charge will be £15 each, sharing a two man canoe, with full safety equipment and a detailed briefing beforehand. It is quite normal for children to attend these trips, so this is an opportunity for a full family event. A packed lunch can be provided for £7, or we may stop at a pub downriver. Such details can be agreed later.
However, in the meantime I do need to collect names. So I can further arrangements with Graham.
Last month I reported on the VSCC 75th Anniversary, to be held as their main event at the Malvern Show Grounds on Saturday the 8th of August. We have an official invitation and I am now looking for a set of older Porsches, 356's and 911's so we can put on a display in the spirit of the event and also become part of their celebration of sports cars through the ages. This will be a great family event and there will be no charge for participants, get on my list as soon as you can, so I can further arrangements.
Any PCGB Member from anywhere is welcome but I must co-ordinate it.
Forthcoming Events. 26th May, next meeting.
26th June. This is our SHOW NIGHT at the Bowling Green, as usual. Last year it was a great event, with many visitors in everything from a vintage 30/98 Vauxhall, right up to latest Porsches, Astons and an Audi. Do come along, enjoy, and maybe, win a prize.
8th August, Saturday. The VSCC, Vintage Sports Car Club Anniversary, see above and last month..
16th August, Sunday. Canoeing Trip. 2009. There is now a year's programme available, call me on 01905 620687. To enjoy the year, you have to book.
Like standing on a diving board, don't think about it, just jump! John Lord.
