Request for feedback on gear change

Hello All,
I'd be very grateful for some feedback on the 997 gear change. A couple of weeks back I had my 997 C2 (late 2006 model/20k miles) in for some warranty work and the OPC very kindly lent me a new'ish Boxster S. I was amazed at the difference in the gear change to my C2: the Boxster's was smoother and slicker compared to the C2 which can often be notchy unless you double de-clutch. I find I use the technique all the time these days - a throw-back to my early days of motoring.
Don't get me wrong, I'm really enjoying the feel of 'real' driving again, but: is this normal on the 997? The 997 certainly feels like a 'proper car' compared to the Boxster.
Speaking to one of the OPC service people, they said that Porsche had deliberately made the gearbox more 'feely' in response to feedback from customers who found the 996 gearchange 'too slick'. Anyone else heard this?
BTW after a year of 911 ownership I'll eventually be getting round to joining the owner's club.

I find the gearchange on my C2S is notchier than my previous Cayman S which was silky smooth. The car is only 1500 miles old so I'm prepared to put it down to bedding in but the difference is very noticeable.

Your car will have the standard shift, the boxster may have had the short shift mechanism. I have just had it fitted to 997 gen 1 after driving a gen 2 which felt far nicer. Porscheshop did it with genuine parts costing approx £300 all in, took approx 1 hour and well worth it.

This is a subject mentioned before. I found my gear change a bit notchy and sent the car in to be looked at. Seems I have a sport shift gearbox which makes it more notchy especialy first and second gear. Could be you have the same...

Short shift should only be notchy in 1st and 2nd until the gearbox and engine oil are up to temperature then it should be a very smooth but definite change. Rifle Bolt action is a word lots of posters on short shifts have used.

Short shift baulks if you try and pick the wrong gear (or don't match revs) but I have found the normal gear change is much notchier and less definite change than the short shift in normal use.
