Researching a new set of tyres for my 996 C4S

Hi everyone,

I have been doing some research into the cost of a new set of Michelin Pilot Sport N3 tyres for my 996 C4S and was surprised by the spread of quotes. I know that prices change daily on various websites but here are my findings:

Tyres:
Front - Michelin Pilot Sport 225 x 40 x 18 Y N3 (88)
Rear - Michelin Pilot Sport 295 x 30 x 18 Y N3 (98)

Tyre Shopper - £576.83 fitted (through Top Cashback Website)
Blackcircles - £629.26 fitted
My Tyres - £682.00 fitted
Porsche Centre - £833.79 fitted

Blackcircles - £578.36 supply only
Camskill - £586.86 Supply only
Tyre Leader - £610.36 supply only
My Tyres - £626.00 supply only

My local Porsche Centre wanted £182.40 to fit and balance if I supplied the tyres! Most garages charge between £15 and £20 per wheel!

Incidentally, I had my tyres supplied and fitted by Tyre Shopper at my local National Tyres centre in Cambridge today. (Tyre shopper is actually owned by National Tyres). Despite my concerns about the fitting and balancing by National Tyres, I cannot fault them. They were ultra careful with the wheels, tyres and car. The manager instructed the two fitters not to use air guns, a special rubber faced socket and T bar was used to manually remove the wheel bolts and they used the wheel pin guide in the toolkit to avoid damage to the calliper paint or wheel arch when removing the wheels. A torque wrench was used when manually refitting the wheel bolts. Balancing was done meticulously on each wheel using nylon coated stick-on weights. I was consulted about the standard tyre pressures and if I wanted different pressures. When the work was done, the two fitters polished the wheels and the work was inspected by the manager. When he was happy he invited me to inspect the wheels, tyres and car before signing off the work. What more can you ask for and £256.96 cheaper than my local Porsche Centre!

I hope that this research helps if you are looking for new tyres but please check prices for yourself on each website as they change almost daily.

Regards,

Steve

Absolutely excellent advice! I have just sourced a complete set of P Zeros all round fitted, £614 - that is a deal - thank you.

Also discovered in the process that the wrong sized tyres were on the front rims 225 instead of 235 - so another impecunity solved hopefully !

blackcircles have good prices but did a bait and switch on me - moving the fitting centre from nearby to miles away in s. london
