Doing one of my period checks on Exchange & Mart yesterday, I was impressed by the stability of prices of the 996 over the last few months. Does anyone else see this, or is it just a quiet time of year for selling and buying?

Well you've got to compare 'asking prices', with actual 'selling prices'.

However, I understand that there is a pretty healthy market for really good 996s, particularly 3.4s around £30k, 3.6 'facelifts' around £40k and C4Ss up to £50k.

Obviously it is still a buyers market, but I think the slump has settled.

My local Caterham dealer said that their best month of the year, for new and used sales, is always February. The days are getting longer, summer's not far away and a new car gets on the agenda. Same should apply to Porsches.

Yep, no doubt the time of year helps, also (hopefully) some of the positive write-ups on second hand 996 ownership seen recently have been a wake-up call to those looking at the 997 being 'way better' than the 996.

I've noticed this also, it almost seems to me that all the negetive press and attitudes toward the 996 basically boils down to the fact that it doesn't have round headlights? a sweeping statement I know but it's hard to argue that the 997 is so good and that the 996 is so bad. I've drove a 997 and the difference between 996 and 997 is minimal compared to the leap from 993 to 996. where the car was tranformed!!

in addition, I had a debate for half an hour the other day with some guy, his argument was that the 996 wasn't a real porsche like the 993, after a half hour of total disbelief at his argument he just happened to mention that hed never actually drove a 996!! so I invited him for a test drive until I then found out that hed never actually driven.......not a 993.........not a 964.....no wait for it........hed never driven a porsche!! Logic dictates that there are alot of 993 owners out there who are or will be looking for an alternative, I think the more people who actually take a 996 out for a test drive the better it will be for the 996, you never know maybe we will see the prices start to appreciate?
