That is a huge undertaking to get a full respray done properly. ALL trim, lights, door handles, badges, windscreen etc need to be removed to do it right.

I've seen a few cars where for instance windscreen rubbers have been masked and to my eye the work looks truly awful.

You might be better getting selective panels done, eg front bumper, bonnet

In my experience a proper respray, glass out, all trim etc by an experienced sprayer - £7500 to £8000. Paint is expensive now!

Hi Guys,

just wondering what a respray for my 987.1 would cost roughly?

It has loads of little age related nicks and scores and I would potentially like to get it fully sorted. I don't think detailing would do, it may be easier to get it all done at once.
The paint seems so easy to scratch currently. You look at it the wrong way and it scores!

Anyway, just looking for a ballpark figure and if anyone could recommend somewhere in North Yorkshire or close, I would greatly appreciate any advice.

Any ideas, suggestions would be gratefully received,

Cheers and beers,

Verner

A proper good paint job windows out ect as been said would be at least 7k maybe more depending who does the work.

You have to pay for quality, I would think that a good quality respray would now be running somewhere arround £10,000.00, when I left the business 4 years ago top quality clear coat was £750.00 per 5ltrs at retail prices plus thinners hardners and base coat.

Might be worth looking at a wrap?

Thanks guys, I cannot really justify those prices for a 17 year old car.

How good are Paint Correction Solutions?

Anyone know of anyone they would recommend for Bodywork in North Yorkshire I could even call?

Best wishes,

Verner

I know a good place in Halifax called Trimcraft. Not a Porsche specialist but they did an exce job on my AC and they do work for a vintage RR and Bentley specialist. That said they dont charge RR prices.

I had a quote from a good reputable body shop near me (Manchester) for a full colour change. Done properly, windscreen out, door bonnet and boot shuts and under bonnet and boot. £4400

I know Manchester is too far but there should be someone nearer to you to match that.

Just a few thoughts from my experiences:

When new Porsche did not lavish hours and hours on painting these cars, a robot did a few passes.

For a factory finish cost will be lower as it is time that costs so much, prep, flatting and much more of the same until done.

If you are handy, you can do a lot yourself in removal and refitting, but quite a task.

For the 8-10K repaints you will have a stunning finish reflecting literally all that time and finish and re-assembly. you will be pleased but have to pay, new owner will be very pleased. You will never get the money back.

Chips away will charge about £300 a panel, so about 10 panels = 3K. Quality will be surprisingly good and will match the original finish which is slightly orange peel.

You can find bargain places and get a good result.

2 years ago I stripped my 1973 911, removed all the old cellulose i applied 30 years before and had it painted by a small local place in 2 pack solid colour.

When the panels were painted, I bought it all back and re-assembled it.

Cost to paint: £1500 (!)

Screen pro re-fitted = £200

Misc materials = £200

Time =£ Zero (retired mans rates...)

There is no cheap solution, you need to love the car to invest in this.
