Respray

My Dad has a guards red 968 and is thinking about having some of it resprayed. Is it worth getting only part of it done or does the whole thing need doing to get a match? And what sort of cost should he expect?

there is a post on the 924 forum page headed "respray" that might answer your question - i would send you a link but i'm not sure how to do it

My red 968 is suffering from very bad fading in all the usual places and I would dearly love to get it resprayed but cost is the major issue. Has he thought about getting a detailer to have a go at restoring the paint work (if it is faded of course). It would be a lot cheaper.

Yep, I think the results from having a professional to work on the paintwork can be very surprising indeed and will only cost a few hundred as opposed to a few thousand pounds.

I can't believe that you haven't done this yet Andrew, in fact, the amount of money you have thrown at your car recently, what's a few grand for a respray?[:-][:D]

Thought I would get a supercharger fitted first[:)][:)]

My car is turning a nice shade of black at the moment because I am determined to use it as much as possible after spending more money on it.

Chaps,
I can recommend a very good professional mobile valet - he is a Swissol Rep

He did Art's very faded red 968 recently and is one the sponsers of my 944S2 Racecar.

Duncan Muir is his name based in Berkshire and you can get him on his

I'm told red is the worse colour to match so I would rely on the advice from a good bodyshop.

By the way a respray is not necessary to sort out the Guards Red fading to Guards Pink. A good machine polish by a professional is a very effective and affordable fix. I was going to do this myself but was warned against it because if you don't know what your are doing you can easily polish your way through the paint and make a real hash of things. I have been quoted about £150 for an all over professional machine polish by a top body shop.

Hi there, I've repainted several Guards red Porsches. If the paint isn't to far gone it can be restored, usually about £100. But if it has started to milk badly then new paint is the answer. In an ideal world it is better to have the whole car done, but you can sometimes get away with just the roof & bonnet & buff the rest.
The red is a bugger to match but can be done, I've done a 928 S4 front end re-paint & blended into all the other panels, you'd never know.
Hope this helps
Dave.
