Restoration of my Boxster S 986 2002 Model

Hello to All,
This is my first post as i'm new to the club and to Porsche.
I bought my 986 S as a project car to restore last October and have been slowly making my way through the straightforward stuff like wheel refurbs / interior etc plus a hood swap to glass rear screen. As the weather is starting to warm up in need to tackle a clutch change plus rear main oil seal and possibly the IMS bearing although I'm undecided on that one just at the moment. The car has done 114,000 miles and is a one owner vehicle but hadn't been looked after.

My question is two fold:
1. Do any members have the special tool to insert the rear main oil seal that I can hire and also the special locking / extraction tool if I decide to change the IMS?
2. If I decide to change the IMS does the club have a discount set up with LN Engineering for the bearing kit or a stockist?

I'm based near Bingley in West Yorkshire so region 7.

Help and advice would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks

Neil

Speak to Revolution Porsche at Brighouse - they're very good for IMS retrofits and handily local :)

Neil,

Back in the day I believe the Club used to have a stock of special tools but unfortunately the practice was discontinued some time ago and I doubt that anything is available for your jobs. It might be worth asking Club office if anything is available.

Also, I think you'll only get a 10% discount on genuine parts purchased from a Porsche dealership, so I think you'll just have to negotiate a price with the LN Engineering bearing stockist.

Hope you manage to get everything sorted. Keep us posted on your progress - it's always good to hear owners' DIY experiences.

Jeff
