Restored 1966 912

Hey there

What do you guys think of the car advertised at the site below (the restored RHD 1966 912)?

http://www.simon-j-robinson.co.uk/other_car_sales.htm

I've emailed the garage and they've clearly put a lot of effort into the restoration but I seem to recall that Tower Porsche (in SE1) have restored at least one 912 to presumably a similar spec for less (around £16k, I believe), but it may have been LHD.

What do you think of the car / the price? Don't suppose anyone out there has already been to see this car / are local enough to kick the tyres (I'm 260 miles away).

Can anyone recommend an independent Porsche inspector in that area (Darlington)?

Cheers

seems like a very hefty price tag. Trevor Messet will also carry out PPI's if Nick is too busy.

I was there 6 month ago with a friend to have a look at the LHD 912 but they didn't have the RHD 912. However the standard of the restored MG's they sell was impressive.

My take on it would be that you could buy 2 really nice 912's for that money - just look at what's for sale on the 912 Register site. RHD cars don't come along that often but I wouldn't pay that money.

I emailed the vendor - I've no doubt they spent a great deal of effort restoring the car and all of the questions I asked got sensible answers (although they didn't touch the suspension / bushes or rebuild the engine / gearbox which seems like a bit of a missed opportunity).

I suspect it would be a fabulous car to own and I could easily believe it owes them all of the £17.5k asking price but I think it's market value (or at least the price I'd pay) is a fair bit less. I don't want to make an 'offensive' offer so I'm going to have to let this one go and have decided not to get a PPI.

Thanks to all those who've responded and messaged me.

Glad about that there are some nice cars out there have a look. One on Ebay at the moment for I guess 9K I know the owner he spent 4 years doing the resto baremetal paint job Andy Prill Engine and it had a BRAND NEW ENGINE CASE!!!!!! where did you see a car that had a new case..

worth a look for sure it's in the Fareham area, Chris's blue 912 again Andy Prill engine I think that's bout £9k as well both cars are the sort of area you need to be looking in if you want a turn key car..

The car at Simon J Robinsons sold last week.

Chris was kind enough to forward some details of his car and it sounds very nice. However, I came across a very tidy, low mileage 964 for a good price over at an independent garage in Acton last week and ended up buying it. Didn't really set out with a 964 in mind, but there you go!

Cheers
