While the project is in the shop and I spend more money on rear mounts/side rubbers/polys/M030arbs/brake hoses/new discs/rear CS shelf etc I took the time to write to the previous owner in Bristol telling him about my plans for the car.
He very kindly sent me a load of bills plus the original sevice book, old MOT's and a spare key with spare immobiliser key[:D] Proves most Porsche people are proper.
Thanks Eddie.
Looking through it all it seems the mileage is right and at 60k - now showing 70k - it had nearly £2k spent on it at Dick Lovetts including a new clutch with fork and the belts & rollers[:D] Also since 50k front wheel brg, new rear shocks, DME, sunroof relay, fan relay & sender unit, speakers, new locking wheel nuts, etc etc.
May still have to change the cam chain & tensioners yet. Am going to remove the cam cover for painting and to fix slightly weepy area so will have a good look.

I will get some pics sorted when I register on the interweb picture site.
Looked at it today in the shop and they are just starting to remove the rear bumper. I saw the mechanism that unlocks the rear hatch. No wonder the CS always felt lighter than the advertised 50kg less. Talk about over engineered[&:]
As mentioned, I've aquired a CS shelf so the rear belts/seats are going. May be tempted to remove the rear wash wipe motor & hatch lock plus associated heavyweight gear[;)]
I wonder if anyone has a CS for scrap I can snaffle the bits from[;)]

Cheers
Dave

Sounds like its coming together nicely...[:D][:D][:D][:D]
You see, you shouldnt have sold ALL the bits off your "old" car.....

Having only recently (re)joined, I've been going through older posts - and found this one that mentions a rear WASH wipe mechanism on a 968 - my 968 coupe only has a wiper, and I have often cursed the lack of wash facility. Can a wash facility be easily fitted, or is it a nightmare?
Thanks,
Chris

Chris.
I think Dave H got his terminology wrong.
There isnt a WASH facility on any 968 rear wipers.......Wiper yes ,,NO wash...
Well ive never seen one...

I found a way to do this years ago,i mounted a bottle in the rear o/s under the carpet from a fiesta i think and just wired it to an extra switch in the console,as for the washer jet i used the aerial from a vauxhall calibra as they were fitted with a bee sting one that looked exactly the same as the porsche one but has a washer jet built in to the rear of it and it looked original as well !!

Thanks fellas, guess my wish for a wash facility will remain unfulfilled. Rear offside cubby has a CD changer so would no hold a bottle and pump as well, and I don't fancy the plumbing to rig it either!
Just have to make sure the rear screen is clean before driving - and keep her for sunny days!

Chris

Changing topic slightly - which CD Player do you have? - I've picked up a CDC-1 (Becker Silverstone) 6-disk unit to fit in the nearside rear cubby, but I'm not sure of the best way to install it (I'm not even sure that the CDC-1 was ever offered with the 968, so clutching at straws a bit here!)

Thanks

Mick

Mick,

Mine's a retrofit, not original installed equipment, and was installed by Street Stereo in Eastbourne. It's a Kenwood 711 10 disc changer linked to a Kenwood 7060 radio. I have a feeling there was already a cable run to the rear offside cubby hole - ISTR the original owner had a phone in the car. One small point - I never use "original" CD's in the changer, only copies. They can jump when you hit a bump, and the CD's can get scratched!

Cheers, Chris

Chris

Thanks - I think I'm going to have to going to have to make a custom bracket, but I'm trying to find a way to drill as few holes in the cubby as possible!

Thanks for the tip about damaging CDs - my everyday car (VW Passatt) has a 6-disk player and it hasn't eaten any discs yet, but it has a much softer ride than the 968!

Regards

Mick

Mick the CDC-1 was offered as part of option M692, and has a 964 part number, 964-645-111-00, the retaining bracket is 944-645-051-00 irrespective of whether a coupe or cabrio. There are also 3 mounting bolts listed 2 x M6x16 and 1 x M10x20.

What is not clear from th parts catalogue is whether the mounting plate is "in car" or in the boot void.

Regards

Stuart
