Retro fit A/C

As my sunroof has started to play up for the second time in a year, and I would prefer to keep the feeling in the right side of may face, I was wondering about retro fitting A/C, either original or aftermarket. I just wondered what was available and what experince/expense others had had. Also, as I already have ATC would I end up with full climate control?

You won't ever have climate control, but you should get the same automatic control as you have now down below ambient which is all the cars with factory air-con have anyway.

Ed might be a good guy to respond as he is reinstating factory air-con on his car. I still have an evaporator in mine that I intend to take out if you struggle for one - it's a dash-out job to remove/fit, hence still being in my car.

Thanks Fen. Dash out sounds expensive and has the potential for lots of squeaks and rattles that I don't presently have. Perhaps I need to have another look at that sunroof!

It is possible, but it will be expensive. I recently read on a 968 forum of a guy who had a full install and if my memory serves me it was circa £2k.

Call Cool-It (they advertise in Porsche Post), they know their way round our system and would be able to help if you have the ££££ [:D]

I think the cheapest way of doing this is to buy another car ;)

Cool-it is certainly a good place to start. You're looking at somewhere between £2and £3k for a full a/c job from them.

Mine's being re-fitted from the bulkhead forward - so no dash out. It was taken out by the previous owner who used the car for sprinting. It's still a nasty job, because the a/c pipes route under all sorts of stuff. It probably took ph sportscars around 10-12 hours to do mine. I've just got to sort a leak from the dryer & get it gassed up now - I hope it works !

Best (cheapest) case is if you get lucky & can find all the main components second hand - maybe £300-£400 all in. s/h condensers & compressors don't always work though.

maybe fixing that sunroof doesn't seem so bad now :)

Thanks Guys. Sounds like fixing the sunroof will be the cheapest and easiest option. The way the weather is at the moment perhaps I need to consider water wings (anyone see Top Gear last night?)
