Retro fit Cruise control

Does anyone have a good experience of having cruise control fitted to their 996? With the number of speed cameras emerging I was keen to explore options and costs.

Do you know the best place in Surrey/Berkshire areas to fit this?

Also, Northway in Reading just quoted me. They were quite a bit less than two other quotes I had.
Haven't go the cash for that this month on top of the Major Im going in for next month, but am looking at having it done for the same reason

HI All,

I called Northway and they quoted £733 + VAT versus Wright Tune which was £499 +VAT. It appears that component costs have increased in recent times.

I have spoken to Wright Tune and they do sound very decent. Will do this later in the summer.

Thanks all.

Can recommend you do it having had it done to my car last year. From memory it was £500 all in - I used Cavendish near Nottingham, but as others have advised there are plenty of indi's offering the service.

Am thinking about getting this added to mine.

Please could someone let me know what the breakdown of costs is: ie parts vs labour?

I see you can get second hand columns from 986s and 996s (with the requisite 4 stalks) from time to time - last one sold for c £250

many thanks

Hello CDog

I just checked my invoice and there wasn't any breakdown for parts vs labour - it was an all in price. I needed a new 4 stalk unit as my car didn't have cruise before and the indicator stalk had failed as well. From memory it took a couple of hours. Hope that helps.

Regards, Graham.

Thanks Graham, that is very helpful.

Sounds like the 4 stalk part is somewhere between £350 and £400 then, depending on the labour cost.

As second hand ones are going for around £250 I think it’s worth the premium to go new.

I took my C4S to an indie to fit cruise. They couldn’t do it because the kit supplied by Porsche didn’t have the required wiring and the opc said they couldn’t supply it. Any ideas what the problem is?
cheers

Hello PhilC4S

They may have got the wrong kit - looks like there are differences between possibly Gen 1 and Get 2 cars. I make this assumption by the fact that the indi I used has different pricing by age of 996.

Porsche don't do a retrofit kit for cruise on a 996. There are differences in wiring, depending on which DME and instument cluster is fitted to the car. Sounds like the indie simply didn't have any experience of doing it.

Hi Jason, no, I haven't had the cruise control fitted yet. I have just covered 1452 miles doing the NC500 (no one tells you how far it is to Inverness and back!). Didn't miss having cruise at all. Even driving on motorways was a joy in the 996. So I might leave it for now.

I have never used my cruise control in 15 years of ownership - if you are going to drive it, then you should drive it !
