retro fit heated seats

Have just purchased a replacement 986 3.2S for our recently written off original car.

Happy with the new car but it doesn't have heated seats, anyone know how difficult it is to retro fit these?

Leather is grey so will probably find it difficult to source replacements with heater elements already fitted

thanks

The easy, but expensive, way would be to find a pair of heated seats, and swap them. The wiring is fairly easy, as the control units (relays) are mounted in the seat, and you would need to run the wires to two switches on the 'batwing' and a 12v feed from the fuse box. You also need to run a wire from the switches to a bridge plug on the relay panel for the switch illumination.

I believe there are heated seat kits around, but they would need the elenents fitting to the seat, and the control system wouldn't look 'factory'.

Thanks Richard

They were pretty much my thoughts - guess I will try and source a pair of seats in need of a refurb and take the bits of those.

Regards

Gary

Thanks for this Richard, although for a person with limited DIY skills it looks rather complicated.

Think I will just keep my eyes open for 2nd hand replacements with elements built in.

Much appreciated

It's what our American cousins call the small panel at the bottom of the centre console where the heated seat switches go, due to the shape.
