Retro fitting Air conditioning...

Help !!!

Just got back from Le Mans, and i melted in the hot conditions, and my dash back home was particularly uncomfortable.

I have a couple of questions, if anyone can help. Does the standard factory air con/climate system in the 993 work well as a rule?...

Could I have air conditioning retro fitted to my 1995 C2, cost aside at this stage. Is it a conversion that you have any experience with ? If so, has anyone a recommendation?

Or am I completely barking mad, and if I went air conditioning, i need to change cars, which i really dont want to do...

Thanks

it shouldn't be that hard but a few £££ esp' if you have all the porsche dash bits, after all it is only a cooler that is activated when you press a button...

as to who where how...... ? those specialists are worth a call, although no doubt A/C prices have risen this week ! [8D]

and yes after this weekend A/C is a MUST !!! [8D][8D]

I see... very complication ventilation system indeed !!! []

retro fit from 3rd party ? may not be OEM porsche but it is a possible solution...(?)

In answer to your first question, 993 air conditioning is not particularly good. Remember, it is a ten year old design that was only average when it was new. However, having said that I have it on my 993 and in the current weather anything that blows cold air is welcome.

If the Evaporator needs replacing on a 993 - If what you say about the 993 AC being an average system is true, is there now a more modern system we can put into it to replace it?

Actually, i have had a system installed since my original post back in the summer of 2005....

It works just fine, i went to the Dordogne during 30C + weather in late june, and the system worked well... not cheap, but then again i did not want to sell this car.

Very happy [:D]

Cheers.

Looks as though I will have to venture for the hard and painful option of getting everything replaced & fixed... Perhaps in April just before the heat wave kicks in. Had the AC on for the whole 9 days I drove around Germany this year. The trip would not have been possible without it...

Jp where did you get your air con fitted and what did it cost. I don't want to sell my car, but it can get pretty sticky when stuck in traffic.

I have receipt for mine being fitted by an OPC (Hatfield??) £2300 ish !!! and that was approx 6 years ago!!!!! and even having had it recharged it is still mediocre...but then again was most welcome during that long hot summer we missed!!!

Regards

JoeM,

Hi i had mine fitted by http://www.readerair.co.uk/ who are based in Woking Surrey. i am afraid that it really is not cheap and as the previous post suggests it is around £2k++ .....

What i can say is that the car was so much more "usable" this Summer on the Motorways and Autoroutes.

For what it is worth, JZ Machtech (who look after my 993) were very impressed with the job, in fact so much so, that they have passed on Reader Air's details to another 993 customer of theirs.

Mind you, i would have been SERIOUSLY upset if the conversion had not worked.

Good luck!
