retro fitting cruise control

Sorry for reposting had problems with old account, and was wondering if cruise control can be retro fitted to my02 carrera and if so how easy, expensive is it? cheers.

Have a look at http://www.wrightune.co.uk . Tony charges about £400 to retrofit cruise control and on-board computer to a 996 although it might be cheaper for an '02 model as I believe the wiring is simpler than earlier models. Don't bother asking an OPC because they will probably tell you it can't be done.

Have a look at the Renntech forum, the DIYs are all there. All you should need is the four stalk and some wire and connectors IIRC. That and a bit of time and effort...

Hi,

I am about to embark on that adventure myself on my C4, I have all the parts necessary now even if it did take Porsche a month to get the 4 lever stalk.

There is loads of info on Rennlist and elsewhere, it doesn't look to hard and there are several people on the forums who have done it before, so lots of help out there.

Just got to find a free weekend, in theory it could be done in an afternoon but I will take my time and be very careful and as is my fashion, cleans everything before I put it back.

Also retro fitting Litronics as well.

If can give you the part numbers that I had to order is you want, some of the ones quoted on websites have changed. Total cost about £150 in parts.

That would be great if you could send me parts numbers and if at all possible prices too (just rough numbers will do) in case theres anything i don't need. Also is your c4 a facelift model?

I think you'll find that retrofitting cruise on yours is different to Stu's, as your car is fitted with the later Motronic 7.8 DME. The instructions on Renntech will not apply. On earlier cars (7.2 DME) the cruise is controlled in the DME. On later (facelift) cars it is controlled in the instrument cluster. The wiring is completely different. In fact, it is simpler and easier, as you only need to make connections between the stalk and instrument cluster. If you want, I could send you the circuit diagram. Email me and I'll attach it to a reply. Whatever happens, you will need to have the instrument cluster coded with a PST2 or PIWIS to activate the cruise control.

Hi,

Like Richard says, mine is a 200 model so I will be putting wire from my dash to the DME. Yours should be much easier. [:)]

Richard is a very helpful man, with lots of knowledge. I will dig out the invoices tonight and post them tomorrow.

Hi,

Just to give you some more confidence, I have retro fitted the Onboard Computer and Cruise Control replacing my 2 stalk controller with a standard 4 stalk controller and it all works lovely. Relatively straight forward and even easier on your as you don't have to find a way to get the wire from the front to the DME on ther rear.

Using the stalk means you would never know it wasn't factory fitted. Marvellous.
