Retrofit of Realtime Traffic Information - anyone done it?

Retrofit of Realtime Traffic Information for 981, 991 etc is available (http://www.porsche.com/uk/accessoriesandservice/tequipment/navigation/) - has anyone here done it? Allegedly it includes a map update as well as the implementation of the realtime capability via Android or iPhone. Does it actually deliver more reliable/useable reroutes in the UK? Is coverage UK-wide? Bearing in mind the warnings about mobile data usage, does anyone have any measures from their phone on how much data the app uses? Anyone blown their mobile data tariff as a result of using it? Any experience or tips would be welcome.

I asked my local OPC about this and they'd not done it yet and am awaiting a price. The car was supplied last October by Reading and they have quoted me £413, of which £198 is for labour, for the update. I think this is ridiculous as it simply brings it in line with what lesser manufacturers do as standard.
Regardless of the the cost of the data I'm not getting this unless they dramatically drop the price.

Right at the bottom of this link http://content3.eu.porsche.com/prod/pag/tequipment/TeqFinder.nsf/TeqFinder?ReadForm&ma=PCGB%20(RL)&co=30&sp=1&pr=392C44B9771866FCC1257F40002DB258&su=Subsequent%20installation%20of%20real-time%20traffic%20information&ac=product it says "from £298.43", off which you would presumably get the PCGB discount. I seem to remember the original email I had from Porsche in which this was announced (which I stupidly didn't keep) gave a price in the region of £250, which is why I thought it worth at least considering if it also included a map update. I agree that £413 is bonkers.

Hi Brian
I have attached the original mail which says £215 or £325 (excluding fitting) depending on whether or not you have online services factory installed. My car doesn't have online services (as they should know seeing as they supplied the car) but they have quoted the lower price so potentially this could be even more expensive !

Having looked into this (have a 2015 981 with PCM and the rest) it appears that unless you have an unlimited data plan on you mobile you would be ill advised to get it as it streams a lot of data! I would also think that as Aha needs to be enabled you mobile phone batteries will be flogged ( and lets face it the iPhone battery life is not great). I have to say for an expensive car why one can't get the same functionality as a cheap Tom Tom Sat Nav but integrated I can't understand.

I may be confusing matters but I have PCM with navigation in a mid-2013 981 Cayman and it has rerouting and chevron marking on map where there is congestion.

I also run Waze for navigation on my iPhone whilst driving so can choose between best routing PCM or Waze and stay within a monthly 2GB data limit.

Ralph That data is based upon the RDS which is carried in the FM signals of your radio stations (the traffic alerts you can browse) .. its not very real time or accurate to be honest .. This system takes real time data from (I guess google) so uses the same data as Waze

I had asked Reading OPC about it as i do have Online Services / AHA however at the prices quoted above that is silly and I will stay with what most folk do ie use waze as well as the in car navigation

Hi Keith, thanks for the image. That's what I remember seeing, but obviously didn't read the price properly!
