Retrofit paddles??

Hi all

I'm sure this has been covered before, so apologies in advance. I'm considering retrofitting paddles to my Gen2 PDK next month when it goes in for its MOT. It's not exactly inexpensive, - surprise surprise! Simple question - would you recommend it - is it worth doing?

I was thinking of doing the same, but then someone mentioned (on my other thread) the throttle tapping feature of the pdk, which is v good.

I'm still game to change - happy to buy together if that somehow helps get a better deal.

ETA: my OPC quoted me £934 fitted...
 
It could be if that's your penchant.

I drove a Boxster S last week with paddles and realised it was not quite so convenient to get to the audio controls.

Secondly, have you mastered changing gear with the accelerator? I don't mean kickdown, but tapping the throttle pedal will force a gear change and it doesn't go into manual mode. It's good fun and for me makes better use of the gearbox - especially for overtakes as you have far more control and the big thing is you don't have to step through the gears - it's easy to go from 7th to 3rd in one tap. I don't use the buttons anymore either.

I can only comment from the other view in that my gen2 turbo PDK has always had paddles and I use them all the time... In fact, so intuitive I couldn't imagine being without them. Highly recommended.
 
From my albeit limited experience the paddles are very good on gen 2 987/997 but the 981/991 pdk is so much better IMO that u rarely used the paddles - the blipping down change was enough but I still prefer the feel of the paddle wheel so will def get it on my next Porsche

I've had both 'puddles' and paddles and for what its worth, can give you my own take on it. I personally much prefer the paddles for overall feel, although as somebody mentioned, you have to make do with the conventional audio controls. This is about the only downside for me from a practical perspective but that's really nit-picking and in some ways I now prefer the "uncluttered" look. If I still had my "puddle" equipped car would I swap? No, as I don't think I could justify it.

If you use your car on track and will drive manually, then I would say the paddles may help as I sometimes found I caught the buttons by accident from time to time on the MFSW but that's about it for me.
