Retrofitting Sport Mode

Hi

I picked up my 2010 C2 from Reading last Saturday. Its PDK but no PASM. I'm thinking of getting Sport mode retrofitted, just waiting for Reading to give me a cost. Having test driven the new Boxster with this option I really liked the difference it made to the gear changing.

Any thoughts on whether its worth doing?

Thanks

Dominique

Congrats on your recent purchase! When you say Sport mode, do you mean Sports Plus (with the Chrono)? I personally would if it was available to sharpen up the throttle response but I guess it comes down to how much it would cost to retrofit the feature. Enjoy the new car! Simon

Thank you! Yes, under the Tequipment catalogue they just call it Sport Mode as you don't get all the functionality of the Sport Chrono. I guess I would need to weigh it up against the final cost, although I'd imagine its just a case of plugging in their laptop and adding a button but that doesn't mean they won't charge handsomely for it!

SunCoastParts detail it's virtues here: http://www.suncoastparts.com/product/9X7SM.html?Category_Code=newproductpage

900 dollars seems reasonable when you compare it with a 1000 for a steering wheel and over 200 for a gear knob ! see bottom of page.

The vid that shows launch is scary, 6500rpm is very high, when I've fitted launch control I've set it at peak torque and usually around 4000rpm..

Thanks, their description is far better than Porsche's own. I do think the car will really benefit from it. Will chase Reading up tomorrow for the price!

Just had the cost from Reading, £899 inc VAT. Still worth it?? Gives you everything apart from the lap timing apparently.

It is in my opinion. And I wouldn't worry too much about the lap timing facility also... But at the end of the day it's your money [:)] Simon

I'd say it's a must-have on a PDK car, but probably not on a manual. I've had mine now for over two years, and I don't regret it at all. I spend far more time in Sport mode than I do in normal; Hell, I probably use Sport Plus mode (in manual) more than I do normal!

Thanks for the comments, I'm not at all worried about the lap timer so I do think that that I'll definitely be getting it done as soon as I get a chance to get it booked in the garage! Thank you!

YOU don't have to go to all the expense of having the full system fitted with the sports button, if you just want the cool noise, unless you sneak out at night, smile, just replace standard silencers with two sport silencers boxes and tail pipe ends and you are done, the boxes are in the active ON position so there is no voodoo electronic needed, and when you start the car it's INSTANT COOL SPORTS NOISE not the fake switch on system that sound normal than cool 10 to 15 seconds later, thats if you remember to turn at all hahaha.. if you do get the full Porsche system ,,, then you will love the noise it makes when the system is on and then you spend hours looking around on the forms ,,,,, (HOW DO I BYPASS THE SPORTS EXHAUST SYSTEM ON MY 997 SO IT''S ALWAYS ON HAHAHAH SMILE :) I fitted my sports exhaust myself with some WD40 its not hard or you can take it to a specialist or any garage and have them fit it for a drink or two mmmm OH I added the sports button inside the car and it dose notting hahahahah but it makes a hell of a noise outside ....

Had this done last month at Guildford who actually gave me a much better price than Reading and the sat nav update at the same time. I think its the first time I've been to garage and the car is better than it was when it went in, rather than just fixed or serviced! I'm so pleased with it, I feel its the car its meant to be with Sport on but its nice to have the choice between what I now see as comfort and sport. I don't think I'll use Sport Plus too much but I'm really happy with the results. Would 100% recommend.

The OP's query is reference Sport mode and not PSE. You fitted a "Sport" button which does nothing except sit on your dash and stare back at you? Whatever floats your boat :)
