Returning KW's to standard ?

What does everybody think about possibly returning KW Variant 3's to standard ?

I've checked the geomerty and settings, and it's still terribly crashy.

Much more so than my 964 RS CS ??

I would check your top mounts. KW3 should not be harsh ride. Are they solid mounts. Do you have uniball wishbones?

Thanks for the replies.

I have a set on a 968CS which are fantastic --- just set up to a nice fast road setting and they are both comfortable on the road and nicely firm when really pressing on.

But those on the 993RS are very crashy --- the iron fist inside the velvet glove !!

I've arranged an educated opinion of them with Mike Johnson (I believe) at Specialist Cars tomorrow !

Chris i would not let mike loose in your car[;)] say hi to him from me.
I am presuming your spring and damper rates match!
Also as mentioned top mounts ,the nearside front one is the one that normally goes first. It would have to be fairly knackered though, to do what you are saying,They also knock when loaded hard.

Most rs have been tracked alot, and its the side that does most of the work on clockwise tracks.
I have gone through 2 factory top mounts on the left and one on the right.Have converted to a f1 type bearing and no problems since.
Easy check, jack the car up at the front, wheel just off the ground and get a lever and lever the wheel up and down, you will hear the clunk if its worn.

Well, Mike says Hi to you Paul !!

There is a very good section of road close to Malton that was perfect for test purposes, and Mike spend some time --- including comparing mine to a similar car --- to show clearly what it was about my suspension that was unsettling the car.

Although my suspension was firm --- almost harsh at times, there was also a distinct oscillation and pitching of my car from the rear, sometimes setting up a slightly corkscrew feeling.

Since it's done over 80,000 miles Mike and I have decided to replace the dampers and whilst we are at it, the springs and of course we'll check all the bushes and mounts etc.

On the return journey the car was going well, and I did start to wonder if the expenditure could be justified --- until overtaking another car the RS dipped into a depression at the edge of the road, and I very quickly decided that the work can't be done too soon !

It either needs doing --- and badly, or the 993RS isn't a patch on the 964RS !!

(P.S. This is nothing to do with KW's --- it's just that one or more of them are shot, which also gives me the reason to return it to standard).

I would put the car back to standard dampers and springs.and get a good set up .
I have been there with state of the art JRZ tripple adjustables, took them off after 2 years of competing with them. The factory standard damper and spring set up is very good ,and its fine on track to.
Ride height and toe are essential to get right,it should out handle a 964 on the road any time.
How many miles has the kw done, not 80,000.
What tyres

KW have a base in the UK, I will get them refurbished and may make them available just for people to try ??

I guess we can get recommended set-ups from KW.

The nice thing about SO2's is that they are progressive.

The R888's are fun but you need to leave yourself a little spare room because they grip until they slip ! But good for the learning !! IMHO.

Come on Paul. You know as well as I do that the only reason why a 993 RS is quicker is brute strength and power. Wishy, washy front suspension coupled with that over complicated back end made for a wimps car. You know real men drive '64's[;)][:D]

Hi Simon
Happy new year to you down under.
I thought my comment would flush out a 964 er comment[:D]
Are you coming over for oulton
