Returning to PCGB - 993

Hi folks,

Returning to PCGB, (prev member in 97 with interest in 928's then again in '12 with an early 996.) Never had the time to attend many club events other than Lotherton in the past. However this January took the plunge with a 993 and so far attended the Whitby run, Bridlington Spa day and OPC open day in Leeds.

Great events and felt re joining the club was the least I could do having already enjoyed three great events as a non member this year, courtesy of R7 !

Having moved on from my 996 C2 - great cars , great value etc however a little too "modern" for me hence I went seeking a new "hobby" vehicle.

All sorts of options considered, older uk classic, Porsche 968 etc until I decided on a 993 back in January this year.

My first air cooled Porsche and not carrying a "top end" budget my search began for a suitable car over the winter '13 to '14 !

Sourced from the excellent GCR Central in Leicester. Proprietor Chris Sargent and all the team were really welcoming, hospitable and helpful. Never come across GCR prior to viewing my car but can't recommend them enough now.

In fact over the last 25 years of running cars I'd have to say this was the best buying experience, dealer or private that I've had ! The workshop is very, very impressive with a wide range of 911's classic and modern and even a BMW E9 coupe undergoing restoration ! Friendly and down to earth, non nonsense attitude is very refreshing !

Plans for the car, basically are use and enjoy. I'm not big into modifying and do like the stock look hence the 16" wheels, ambers etc will be staying.

Looking forward to fettling any minor issues that crop up, keeping the car clean and well maintained as I go along but not really changing the spec.

Had plenty of good runs so far and impressions are really pleasing, very different feel and sound from a 996 and just what I was looking for. A Tip wouldn't necessarily have been my first choice although other factors weighted in to make this the car for me. After using it I'm really getting to like the transmission though, almost over and above a manual "˜box !

Anyhow, enough for now, will keep chipping in and contributing wherever I can.

Looking forward to getting round some more of the shows and club events during 2014 and beyond !

Have attached a basic image of the car below !

Regards.

Dave

I really like the Iris Blue colour - it is one of my favourites on a 993 but you need to do something about the 16" wheels [;)]

I bet it drives beautifully on those 16" wheels! As a former user of 18" hollow spokes and now running 17" cups I can only say that the ride and comfort gets better. Go not show!!

Cheers, the ride quality is great. I actually like the look of the wheels , im usually all for up spec on alloy wheels but these seem to suit the car and at this stage I prefer the look of them to bigger diameter alternatives [;)]

Cheers Chris same to you pal, was a really good event, enjoyed meeting everyone and having a good mooch around at RPM and also GMUND tucked round the side on the estate, some very interesting and nice motors all round ;-))
