Rev Counter

Bit of an odd one.
When I switch on the ignition the rev counter goes to 1k rpm and when engine starts goes to 1.8k rpm.
On running the car it indicates max revs 6.5k rpm up to the rev limiter, so it self compesates itself through the rev range, very strange.
Anybody any solutions ?

Hi Thanks for responding,
can you please expand on the ballast in the unit, what and where it is, and can I fix it or is it to be a new rev counter,

Yes sorry. The ballast is an electronic damper to give the needle a smooth operation rather than be all over the place. This can be fixed but best done by a specialist. It happend to mine and I used Reap Automotive. You could also try Speedy Cables. Both have a good reputation.
 
Sorry I meant sorted in that I had a chat with them and I'm sending to them during the winter when the cars tucked up in bed.
