rev counter

Hi,
i am having problems wih the rev counter. it keeps bouncing up and down and reading different engine speeds.
I have checked the voltage and the alternator is putting out a steady 13.9 volts at tick over, the rev counter bounces up and down even then

The car runs fine any one any ideas ?
