(Rev) Limited Outlook

...Ok I appreciate I have a thread ongoing about low rev problems and how that is affecting the auto change on my 98 TT, but now a new cruel dynamic - its hitting what feels like a rev limiter at 5,000rpm.

No CEL (it is working light does come on - checked)

MAF recently changed.

No error code (checked by Northway)

Wondering spark plugs?

Any other ideas?

Cheers.

I have not looked at your other thread but does the car just feel a little flat when trying to accelerate?

Mine had this feeling and turned out to be the variable cam config, I am running a Syvecs ECU so it was easy to log and fix but before checking it could be described as a rev limiter / collapsed cat type feeling.

Thanks for that, but I'm pretty sure that's not it as variocam solenoid was replaced 6k miles ago, and the problem cleared itself after I stopped the car and left it for a few hours, although I'd wager it will be back.

Plugs is the first point of call I think - under guidance, they weren't changed last service and I think it was a false economy.

Regards.

Thanks Rodney but I would have thought coil packs would have thrown up an error code.

Annoyingly the car drove like a dream over the weekend so it now looks like its something intermittent - I've got it booked in with Northway next month to have a good hunt around, but for the time being I'll just count my blessings!

Hi Jules,

I'd normally say it's very likely to be the MAF as that limits the revs in that way, but you've had that replaced, so then it is very likely to be the coil packs (error code as in you've plugged in a duramteric or PIWIS?) but they don't always throw up a CEL light.

What I meant was don't look at plugs I'd instead look at the packs instead as they are usually the culprits.
